Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata (INK), which celebrated its 14th Foundation Day on Saturday, acquired a 100-acre land in Rajarhat and the new campus will be called ‘Snayu-Tirtha'. The medical college will have a 600-bed hospital with 150 beds earmarked for each batch of 1st to 4th-year students. At least 300 doctors will serve at the hospital, while the college will have 600 students. In the second phase, Snayu-Tirtha will have a neurosciences university, which will carry out research on neurosciences and treatment. "We plan to build a separate neurosciences hospital with the university. It will cater to more patients than we can now serve and offer the latest in neuro treatment in collaboration with our partner hospitals across the globe," said INK founder and chairman R P Sengupta. The hospital now has 210 beds and around 80 consultants.

Woodlands will introduce a multispeciality unit with high-end facilities. A project to add 200 beds on its existing premises is underway and will take one more year to be functional. "This will include a neurology unit, a cancer facility with advanced radiotherapy, a transplant unit, cardiology, neuro-interventional procedures, and more outpatient clinical areas. It will take our capacity to 365 beds by year-end," said Woodlands CEO Rupak Barua.

Narayana Hospitals, too, will add beds this year, including in neurology and oncology units, as part of a ‘mega-project' that started this year. "In Feb, construction for a mega project will start in Kolkata. It will be a 1,000-bed superspeciality hospital," said Narayana COO R Venkatesh.

Charnock Hospital will flag off its new unit—Charnock Lohia Hospital—on Rabindra Sarani with 200 beds. A heritage structure, which housed Lohia Matri Sewa Sadan, lay unused. Charnock Hospital, which has a 300-bed hospital in Teghoria, signed an MoU with Lohia Trust to convert the facility into a 200-bed hospital with neurology, cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology and other disciplines. "We hope to get it functional by mid-'25. It will particularly help patients from north, Salt Lake, New Town & northern fringes," said Charnock MD Prashant Sharma.

Ruby Hospital will have 80 more oncology beds by Feb and BP Poddar Hospital plans to add 200 beds for multiple specialities and 150 beds for cancer care. Desun will add a 200-bed multispeciality unit in '25.
