• Decorative lighting, fresh paint: Kol decks up for BGBS

  • 123 Kolkata: The Salt Lake Bypass stretch connecting Sector V with EM Bypass, Ultadanga flyover, Chingrighata flyover, Ambedkar Bridge and Maa flyover and Lake Town's Big Ben replica are getting decked up ahead of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) that will start on Feb 5.

    The 2.5 km Salt Lake Bypass stretch has been decked up with decorative illumination. The road surface, too, has been repaired keeping an eye on the BGBS. The flyovers and bridges located on EM Bypass will also get a coat of fresh paint and get a cleaner look.

    Salt Lake Bypass is one of the important stretches in the city, with delegates mostly using this stretch to come to the city through EM Bypass from Sector V-end. The Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has started installing decorative lighting on the stretch from Chingrighata to Technopolis crossing. The entire stretch will also be relaid with fresh bitumen where required.

    Govt officials said that the Ultadanga flyover, Chingrighata flyover, Ambedkar Bridge and Maa flyover located on EM Bypass will get a fresh coat of paint by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Other bridges like Kestopur flyover on VIP Road, Haldiram flyover connecting New Town with VIP Road, the flyover on the main arterial road in New Town beside Axis Mall and the Wipro flyover on Salt Lake Bypass will also be decked up by the respective agencies with decorative lighting.

    "The coat of paint will give a fresh look to the flyovers where the colour has faded due to rain and other external reasons. The structures will also get decorative lighting during BGBS," said an official. The median dividers are also being painted. The damaged portions, if any, will be repaired.

    The 30-metre Big Ben clock tower replica at Lake Town crossing on VIP Road has been recently renovated. It, too, has got a fresh coat of paint.
