123 Kolkata: The detective department's bank fraud section has busted a fake call centre running from a rented house at Netaji Nagar and arrested 10 persons. The accused were cheating Australian and US nationals. The seizures include one laptop, three hard discs, five cheque books, 10 mobile phones, cash worth Rs 2.1 lakh, screenshots of desktops and several scripts prepared to tackle different customers.
Rupesh Kumar, joint CP (crime & traffic) said, a team of DD led by inspector Tushimoy Das conducted a raid at the NSC Bose Road address and found a call centre where fake VOIP calls were made to different persons in Australia and US impersonating as employees of anti-virus providers offering tech support. The callers use to siphon off money from the victims' bank accounts by using remote access apps. The accused will be produced before Alipore court on Tuesday with a prayer for police remand. TNN
