Kolkata: A woman was found in a severely injured state, after allegedly surviving a rape and a murder attempt, in a field in Joynagar on Sunday. The survivor, who is in critical condition, is undergoing treatment at Baruipur Super Speciality Hospital.
According to police sources, villagers in Jangalia heard desperate cries for help on Sunday morning and found the woman lying in the mud. A scarf was tightly wrapped around her neck and bloodstains covered her face. Locals called the police, who transported her to a nearby rural hospital before shifting her to Baruipur hospital.
The woman said a man named Sabir had kidnapped her on Saturday night. He allegedly took her to the field and raped her and then tried to strangle her with a scarf. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
