Kolkata: At least nine people were injured after a private bus on the Santragachi-Sealdah route rammed into multiple vehicles on Tuesday. The bus driver claimed a brake failure had led to the accidents while he was driving down the exit ramp of Vidyasagar Setu towards the Royal Calcutta Turf Club.
Cops said the bus first hit a sedan at 10.10 am. The car was being driven by Arnab Biswas (51). "A mini-truck and my car were near the Vidyasagar Setu diversion point when the bus rammed my car from behind. On impact, my car bonnet struck the loaded mini-truck before me. Its driver tried to avoid hitting a motorcyclist and swerved sharply. In doing so, it toppled," said Biswas.
The bus then managed to exit the ramp and hit an app cab. The bus finally hit the pavement and came to a stop after crashing into a tree. The driver, Sk Akbar, tried to flee but was nabbed by traffic cops and handed over to Hastings police.
