Howrah: With days to go for the Madhyamik examination, the admit card, registration card, books, notebooks, and notes of an examinee were gutted when her two-storey house caught fire early on Wednesday at Bagnan in Howrah. The candidate, Renuia Khatun, also suffered burns on her right hand while trying to save her exam documents and books.
Khatun is now admitted to a hospital with burn injuries. Three others, along with Khatun, were seriously injured in the fire and are admitted to a local hospital.
According to the police, the fire broke out while everyone was asleep. Before they could comprehend the situation, the fire spread throughout the house. Although the family members managed to escape, they couldn't retrieve any of their belongings. Before the blaze could be controlled, two gas cylinders exploded inside the house. Four fire engines took about two and a half hours to bring the fire under control.
Sheikh Masud, head of the local village council, stated they would contact the relevant authorities to ensure that Khatun could sit for her exams.
Having lost everything in the fire, Khatun's family now have nowhere to go. Fire department officials and police officials stated that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
