Kolkata: A Kolkata Police sub-inspector, Arun Kumar Maiti (56), and civic volunteer, Sangita Porey, were allegedly assaulted near Bandha Bathtala crossing by a group of revellers — in an inebriated state — from a local club in Rabindranagar area heading to immerse a Saraswati idol in the Hooghly.
They allegedly assaulted the cop after being told to refrain from blocking Paharpur Road in Garden Reach around 10.10pm on Wednesday.
Two youths of Metiaburz — Aditya Paswan (20) and Saikat Maity (21) — were arrested and a case was registered under BNS sections 121 (1) and 132. DC (Port) Harikrishna Pai said the injured were discharged from SSKM Hospital after treatment.
Cops said more arrests are likely as police are examining the CCTV footage of the area.
