KOLKATA: Lieutenant General Batoo Tshering, chief operations officer of the Royal Bhutan Army, concluded his two-day visit to the Indian Army’s Eastern Command Headquarters in Kolkata, at Vijay Durg (previously called Fort William).
He discussed steps to enhance defence cooperation, with particular emphasis on incorporating cutting-edge technology for the mutual security interests of the two countries.
In a key meeting with Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command, both leaders discussed strategic measures to strengthen bilateral military relations between the two nations.
“The visit significantly strengthened the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Indian Army and the Royal Bhutan Army. It also served as an excellent platform for the two armed forces to deepen their partnership in areas of mutual interest, including training, joint exercises, and regional security.
The Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering strong defence ties with Bhutan, thereby contributing to regional peace and stability,” the defence spokesperson in Kolkata said after the visit.
During the visit, Lt Gen Tshering paid tribute to fallen Indian soldiers in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Vijay Smarak memorial. The ceremony underscored the deep-rooted military cooperation between India and Bhutan.
The strengthening of Indo-Bhutan military ties is seen as a crucial development in maintaining regional stability and security in the Eastern Himalayan region, where both nations share strategic interests.
Both armies have expressed their commitment to continuing this partnership through regular high-level exchanges and joint military initiatives in the future.
