• In MoU with Amazon, pitch to sell Bengal’s MSME items to world

  • Amazon India on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Textile, Government of West Bengal, on the second day of the Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata.  As part of this agreement, Amazon will provide training and onboarding to MSMEs from the state, enabling them to sell their products to customers in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.

    The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other dignitaries, including Chief Secretary Manoj Pant.

    Bhupen Wakankar, Director Global Trade at Amazon India, who highlighted the transformative impact of technology on export opportunities for MSMEs in West Bengal and India said, “As e-commerce exports gain momentum, more businesses are reaching global markets with unprecedented ease. At Amazon, we are committed to supporting this growth, and under the guidance of the Chief Minister, we look forward to working with the Bengal Government to help MSMEs and entrepreneurs from the state build strong global brands.”

    Wakankar stated that Amazon’s efforts “align with the broader vision of boosting India’s ecommerce exports, with a goal of enabling $80 billion in exports by 2030.”

    “Digitizing small businesses and boosting exports from the state are key focus areas for us,” said  Rajesh Pandey, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles.   “I would like to commend Amazon for launching initiatives aligned with our priorities. Our state will work closely with Amazon for the benefit of lakhs of entrepreneurs across Bengal…,” he said.

    I believe that initiatives like these can help them grow their business by reaching customers across the world, while contributing to the growing digital economy of our state.

    Emphasising on the importance of digitising small businesses and boosting exports from the state, Rajesh Pandey, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles, Government of West Bengal, said, “Digitising small businesses and boosting exports from the state are key focus areas for us.”
