Kolkata: The Anandapur Police arrested a fifth accused involved in the murder of a 28-year-old shoe trader from the VIP Bazar area on Jan 31. "Ranjan Chakraborty (49), a resident of Sakrail in Howrah, was arrested on Friday from his residence for his involvement in the crime," said DC (East) Arish Bilal.
Sources said that with this arrest, everyone involved in the murder – including a 16-year-old – is now in custody.
The investigation found that the main accused, Anup Mondal (32), a close friend of the victim Sanu Ram, planned the murder over several weeks. "The accused picked up Sonu in a car from Kasba and used a seat belt to strangle him. Four days after the murder, the accused transferred Rs 1 lakh from Sonu's phone to another accused's account," said an officer.
