12 Kolkata: Berger Paints India is set to invest over Rs 2,000 crore to augment its production capacity in the country by 2027. The paints major, which has started shifting its headquarters from Park Street to New Town, is eyeing a top line of Rs 20,000 crore by 2030 as part of its strategic growth vision.
On Monday, state industry minister Shashi Panja inaugurated the company's new eight-storey headquarters at New Town. Currently, Berger's production capacity per month stands at over 1 lakh metric tonnes and the company plans to raise it by 32,000 metric tonnes in the next two years, said Abhijit Roy, MD and CEO of the company.
"We are going to come up with the largest manufacturing plant in Odisha by 2027 at an investment of over Rs 1,200 crore, and this is likely to add about 25,000 metric tonnes to the production capacity. We are closing the Howrah factory and shifting it to a Panagarh facility, which is coming up at an investment of about Rs 600 crore, and its production capacity will be 5,000 metric tonnes per month," said Roy.
Apart from these, Berger will also invest another Rs 250 crore to expand production by another 2,000 metric tonnes at its Hindupur plant in Andhra Pradesh. Founded in Howrah in 1923, Berger Paints operates 29 manufacturing facilities across India, Nepal, Poland and Russia. The company plans to turn the Howrah facility — its oldest — into a research and development centre.
Berger chairman Rishma Kaur said: "Having achieved Rs 10,000 crore revenue in the centenary year, we aim to reach Rs 20,000 crore by 2030. Operating from Bengal, we have entered the global markets, emerging as the seventh-largest architectural coatings company worldwide. Our new headquarters will house a paint museum that will uphold our 100-year legacy."
Roy said there will be no price hike of products because of stable raw material prices. "The new real estate activities contribute 15% to our business. Overall, we are witnessing a 10-12% growth in business every year," he said.
