• 2 die, 4 injured in blaze at Bolpur

  • Bolpur: A blaze at a residential complex at Bolpur in Birbhum district left two people dead and four injured on Monday evening. The fire broke out on the first floor of the five-storey building at Bandhgora near Bolpur bus stand at 6.30pm. The flames rapidly engulfed the second floor, trapping residents inside.

    Two fire engines were put into service. The trapped residents were rescued by breaking open an iron grill and bringing them down by an extended ladder. Four, including two children, sustained burn injuries and were rushed to Bolpur Sub-Divisional Hospital. Two of them — Swapan Nandi, 68, and Anju Nandi, 62 — later succumbed to their injuries.

    Birbhum SP Anadeep said, "Two persons were killed. Rescue operation is still going on. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed."
