12 Kolkata: Bengal paddlers once again reigned supreme winning gold in both the men's and women's team events in the National Games in Dehradun on Monday. In both the finals, Bengal overcame Maharashtra with the men blanking their opponents 3-0 and their women's counterparts winning 3-1.
Sutirtha Mukherjee gave Bengal the right start getting past Swastika Ghosh 3-2 (11-8, 6-11, 14-12, 2-11, 11-5), but Maharashtra drew level when Diya Parag Chitale defeated Ayhika Mukherjee 3-0 (12-10, 11-6, 11-5). Former national champion Poymantee Baisya once again gave Bengal the lead by beating Taneesha Kotecha 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6).
Ayhika did not make any more mistakes and wrapped up the tie by beating Swastika 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 13-11) in the reverse singles.
Veteran Mouma Das opted out of the final keeping the right team combination in mind.
Bengal crushed Delhi 3-0 in their last-four clash.
In the men's final, Anirban Ghosh set the tone by beating Josh Modi 3-2 (11-7, 10-12, 6-11, 11-6, 11-4) while Akash Ghosh defeated Raegan Albuquerque 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 12-10). Sourav Saha ensured the gold by overcoming Chinamay Somaiya 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6).
