Kolkata: City police commissioner Manoj Verma, a fitness enthusiast, led by example as he completed the 21km run at the Kolkata Police Half Marathon this Sunday, the event kicking off the Traffic Safety Week. In all, 16.5k enthusiasts participated in the marathon. However, the talking point in Lalbazar remained the top cop's run for the entire duration.
The commissioner, barely a few days ago, had emphasised the importance of physical fitness for police officers. He also encouraged officers to dedicate time to sports or any physical activity like brisk walking or running daily. Verma made this comment while addressing the opening ceremony of Kolkata Police Sports Day.
"Physical fitness is important, not just for those participating here but also for those who are not participating for some reason. Physical fitness is important for us. It is required. Try to take out one to two hours of your day. It will help to stay fit," said Verma.
