  • Kolkata: Debdutta Majhi, the Madhyamik 2023 topper, has found a place on the state-wise merit list published by the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) session 1 (Jan 2025) conducted by the National Testing Agency with a 99.99 percentile score.

Debdutta is a student of Katwa Durgadasi Chaudhurani Girls High School. She had scored 697 out of 700 in Madhyamik. She is now preparing for her higher secondary exams, which are slated to begin on Mar 3. Speaking to TOI, she said this score came to her as a big mental boost before the HS exams. "I knew I would get a good score but this is beyond my expectations. I want to study at IISC, Bangalore in future," she said.

She has physics, chemistry, and mathematics in HS. She prepared herself for the exams — both the HS and competitive exams — based on self-studies with the help of online course materials. "Mainly, I focused on preparing for JEE Mains, and alternatively, I prepared for the HS, too. Now I am feeling relaxed and can give full focus on HS last-minute preparations."

Debdutta's father is a physics professor who stays in Asansol, and her mother, who is also a teacher at the same school, gave full support to her daughter in preparing for exams. "It's a big day for us because it's beyond my expectations," Shelly Dan, her mother, said.
