• 16 tonnes of ammonium nitrate seized

  • 12 Suri: A 16-wheeler lorry carrying 16 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, used to manufacture explosives, was intercepted on Monday night at Mansuba crossing, reports S Boral. Three persons were arrested and produced at a Rampurhat court, which sent them to police custody for three days.

    The ammonium nitrate was in 320 sacks, each weighing 50kg. Inspection revealed that the batch numbers on the sacks had been deliberately removed. Inconsistencies were also noted in the tax invoice, challan and intended delivery route. Initial inquiries indicated the materials were being unlawfully transported for use as mining explosives.
