A West Bengal forest guard was severely injured after a Royal Bengal tiger attacked him during a search operation for the tiger. He was admitted to Kolkata’s SSKM hospital with injuries on his forehead.
Police said the incident occurred at Maipith of the Sundarbans.
The villagers of Maipith informed the district forest department that a tiger entered the area on Sunday. On Monday, when the forest officials and guards started a search operation with nets, the tiger attacked Ganesh Shyamal, who is a resident working with the forest department on a temporary basis. The tiger jumped on his head. However, other guards beat it with sticks and after a while, the animal fled. Shyamal was first taken to a local hospital before he was taken to Kolkata.
The tiger entered the house of a villager which has now been cordoned off by forest officials to catch the tiger with a sleeping bullet.
