Titagarh Rail forms 2 new verticals for shipping biz, safety products

Kolkata: Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has formed two new business verticals following a management rejig. The units are Ship Building and Maritime Systems (SMS) and Safety and Signalling Systems (SSS).
TRSL has been in the shipbuilding and maritime business in the past; it designed, manufactured and delivered some projects, including specialised ships.
The SMS vertical of Titagarh will be headed by Saket Kandoi, a director in the company who was earlier the chief operating officer of the Freight Rail Systems division. He will now be the director and CEO of Ship Building and Maritime Systems.
Speaking on the development, Kandoi said: "Titagarh already has a shipyard in Kolkata and will now explore growing the business."
The TRSL board also approved setting up of the Safety and Signalling Systems, under which Titagarh will develop products to cater to the growing need for enhancing safety and signalling systems for the Railways and Metro systems.
Prithish Chowdhary, the deputy managing director of the company, will be the ad-interim CEO of SSS. Speaking on the same, he said: "We have identified three key areas where we will be focusing on safety and signalling systems and will leverage our existing engineering and manufacturing capabilities for the same – train control, asset condition monitoring, vehicular- and train-mounted solutions."
