After more than 12 hours of search, the West Bengal Forest department finally managed to catch the Royal Bengal Tiger which attacked and injured a forest guard in the Sunderbans on Monday.
Around 3.30 am on Tuesday, forest guards were able to tranquilise the tiger, which is now under observation by the Forest department.
A forest officer said, “It is a male tiger. It is doing well and has no injury.”
On Sunday, the villagers of Maipith in Sunderbans had informed the district Forest department that a tiger has entered the area.
On Monday, when the forest officials and guards started a search operation with nets, the tiger attacked Ganesh Shyamal, a resident of the area working with the Forest department on a temporary basis.
The tiger jumped on his head. However, other guards beat the big cat with sticks and after a while, the animal fled. Shyamal was first taken to a local hospital before being shifted to the SSKM hospital in Kolkata.
