  • 12 Kolkata: With more IT companies emerging and increased VVIP movement, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) will upgrade and redevelop the roads in the central business district (CBD) area of New Town. The authorities have estimated Rs 1.9 crore for the CBD area and Rs 67 lakh for the stretches of street 335. NKDA has initiated the process to engage agencies to undertake the work.

Along with upgrading the existing road network of the CBD area, the authorities will also carry out painting and cutter work, along with removing all kinds of garbage and demolition waste mixed with earth to give the area a fresh look.

The CBD area of New Town, between Action Area I and II, is designated for business activities, including IT and real estate, commercial offices, and retail. A number of office complexes, as well as high-rises, are emerging in the CBD area. The area has the financial hub and the upcoming fintech hub nearby.

With all such developments, the authorities felt the need to enhance the road infrastructure for better transport. "Hidco initially constructed some roads in the CBD area, which now need to be enhanced as the number of vehicles is increasing, as well as VVIP movement occurring," said an NKDA official.
