Kolkata: E-commerce marketplace Meesho is banking on MSMEs and will allow more unbranded retailers to sell their products on the platform. The move is to strike a balance between branded and unbranded retailers for achieving 50% rise in sales in next one year, according to Sourabh Pandey, GM, fulfilment and experience at Meesho. The e-commerce platform has seen 80% rise in app downloads and 30% rise in orders in Bengal in the past one year.
"About 70% of non-GST sellers who are selling products through our platform are from Bengal. About 52% of sellers on our platform are also manufacturers. We are using third party logistics in Bengal and have 600 logistics partners who are small business entrepreneurs. We are trying to create a platform where more logistics partners can join," said Pandey.
The e-commerce platform is witnessing jump in sales in Kolkata, Howrah and Siliguri as well as urban areas of Hooghly, Barrackpore and Barasat. "About 54% of e-shoppers using our platform are from rural areas of the state, where the demand for unbranded products is more than Tier 1 cities," Pandey added.
