• Pranati, Ritu clinch gold in gymnastics

  • Kolkata: It was a good day at the office for Bengal as they clinched three gold medals on the penultimate day of the National Games in Dehradun.

    Bengal showed their dominance in the women's floor exercise event on Thursday, with Pranati Das (11.967 points) and Protishtha Samanta (11.533 points) winning gold and silver respectively. Delhi's Sneha Tariyal took home the bronze, scoring 10.800 points.

    Ritu Das then clinched the second goal for Bengal in the women's artistic gymnastics balance beam event with 11.367 points. While Maharashtra's Satakshi Rakesh Takke secured the silver (11.067), Pranati Nayak — who took part in the artistic individual all-around event at the Tokyo Games and represented Odisha in the National Games — settled for bronze (10.733 points).

    Bengal won their third goal of the day in table tennis. In the mixed doubles event final, Anirban Ghosh and Ayhika Mukherjee rallied from two sets down to stun Maharashtra's Chinmaya Somaiya and Reeth Rishya Tennison 10-12, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-2.

    In men's singles final, Jaish Amit Modi of Maharashtra staged a brilliant fightback to defeat Tamil Nadu's Sathiyan Gnanasekaran 7-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 14-12, 6-11, 11-6. The women's gold went to Tamil Nadu's Selena Deepthi Selvakumar.

    Bengal were eighth on the standings with 16 gold, 13 silver and 18 bronze medals.
