Kolkata: An Alipore court on Wednesday found three persons accused in the Budge Budge robbery and gang-rape case guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The judgment came eight years after the crime. The fourth accused has passed away.
Judge Ayan Majumdar on Wednesday sentenced Sheikh Ramzan (47) and Dhanush Sheikh (45), Abdul Hamid Molla (27) to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 each. Imam, the fourth accused, has passed away.
A couple was sleeping at home with their seven-year-old child in the Bishukhara village on Dec 31, 2017, when the robbers barged in. They tied up the husband, wife and the child and took their belongings. Then, the woman was taken to the veranda and raped. Police arrested the accused and recovered the stolen items.
"We monitored the case all along and ensured that our scientific evidence matched the statements of our witnesses," said Supratim Sarkar, ADG (South Bengal).
