Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday congratulated the state-run SSKM Hospital and doctors there for creating "a record" by performing 175 gallbladder surgeries in five days.
"Glad to inform you that our very own apex level govt facility in Kolkata, SSKM Hospital, created a record by performing waiting-in-the-queue 175 gallbladder surgeries in the last 5 days! This was a mission mode endeavour to clear the waiting gallbladder cases, and also to show what our doctors can do if they work in unison with dedication!" the CM posted on X.
TOI on Saturday reported on the surgeries that were undertaken at SSKM to clear the backlog. The hospital's general surgery department dedicated its resources solely to gallbladder stone operations from Feb 10 to 16.
The 175 gallbladder surgeries were successfully done in addition to the usual operations in the hospital, the CM said. "During these 5 days, there were 390 other major surgical cases in addition to those 175 special drive cases," she said, urging other hospitals to follow the model.
