A teenage girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a youth who threatened her with acid attacks if she resisted, South 24 Parganas police said on Friday. The accused has been arrested, police said.

According to police sources, the accused had been harassing the girl in public places and stalking her. When she did not respond to his advances, he allegedly threatened to throw acid on her face. He is also accused of sexually assaulting her multiple times, police said citing the
girl’s family.

The victim finally confided in her parents, who filed a police complaint on Thursday. A family member said, “We want the guilty to be punished.”

“We have arrested the accused youth on the basis of the complaint. A case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” said a police officer.
