Kolkata: A 76-year-old man died after being hit by a private bus at the AJC Bose Road-Loudon Street crossing, close to Minto Park, around 9 am on Monday. Chotelal Prajapati from the Botanical Garden area in Shibpur came into the bus's blind spot when he tried to cross the road immediately after stepping off it.
"Prajapati boarded a bus on the Andul-New Town route. When he got off, he noticed the signal was still red. As he hurried to cross, the signal turned green and he was left stranded. The bus driver failed to notice him and the vehicle went over his feet. He was taken to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared dead two hours later. Doctors said he was unable to bear the trauma," an officer said.
"We have been requesting all those associated with buses to install blind-spot mirrors. They are fitted in several govt buses, unlike private buses," an officer said.
