  • 123 Kolkata: During the reconstruction of the Duttapukur murder case, the severed head of 29-year-old Hazrat Laskar, a criminal-turned-police informer, was recovered from a wetland adjacent to a railway gate at Bamangachi station on the Sealdah-Bongaon section on Tuesday morning.

Divers were deployed to retrieve it from the water body, 16 days after his brutal murder. Laskar's headless, half-burned body with mutilated genitals was found in a paddy field at Duttapukur in North 24 Parganas on Jan 31.

The prime accused, Obaidullah Gazi, Laskar's cousin, and his wife, Puja Das alias Nisha, an alleged paramour of the victim, have already been arrested. Their common friend, Sophia Khatun, and her husband, Mohammad Jalil, who executed the murder by beheading Laskar, are also in custody.

On Tuesday, police took Jalil and Sophia to the crime scene for the reconstruction. Jalil pointed out the water body, barely 150 metres from the murder site. Divers from the Barasat District Police disaster management group conducted a search and recovered Laskar's head, which was stuffed in a plastic bag. Police also seized a katari (machete) and a hammer from Jalil.
