  • 123 Berhampore: A Lalgola hospital saw two police officers-in-charge fighting on Tuesday night, leading to arrest of one of the OCs.

The arrested Ashraful Sheikh, OC of DCRB (District Crime Record Bureau) and five of his family members were arrested after they attacked cops of Lalgola PS, and medical staff at Krishnapur Rural Hospital. Lalgola OC Atanu Das and two cops sustained injuries. The arrested were sent in 5-day police custody on Wednesday.

Ashraful's mother was admitted to the hospital on Monday, said sources. On Tuesday, he and his relatives harassed attending physician Arindam Biswas, some nursing staff and two civic volunteers. After Biswas lodged a complaint at Lalgola PS, Das came at the hospital.

There have been allegations of misconduct against Ashraful while he was the OC at Kirnahar PS several months ago. Murshidabad SP Surya Pratap Yadav said: "We have arrested six persons, including one police officer, for misbehaving with the doctor and nurses at the hospital. We have taken them into remand for a detailed investigation."
