Kolkata: East-West Metro's commercial services will be suspended, once again for four days from Thursday, for the second phase of the trial of the signalling system in the incomplete Esplanade-Sealdah section.
In the first phase, both sections of East-West Metro were shut from Feb 13 to 16.
Around a lakh commuters will be affected by the suspended services. Most of them have planned alternative ways of commuting. "I will take a shuttle from the Second Hooghly Bridge," said Howrah Maidan resident Sukla Basu.
On Thursday, Uber will launch a new shuttle route from Sealdah to New Town. The services will continue till Mar 13. The new route will operate daily, running buses from 7.30 am to 11 am, and 4 pm to 7.30 pm, every 15 minutes.
Amit Deshpande, head of Uber Shuttle in India, said, "We are grateful to the transport department for trusting us with this expansion. The new route will bridge the gap during the Metro shutdown."
