• Seniors enrol in Presi’s new course

  • Kolkata: Moulinath Biswas, a 59-year-old central govt employee, stepped inside a university campus on Wednesday after leaving his studies in 1984.

    Sandip Banik graduated from City College in 1984 and returned to a campus after his retirement.

    Subrata Dasgupta, a chemical engineer, who enrolled in the new value-added course called ‘Jibanananda Adhyayan' (Jibanananda Studies) after his retirement. The Presidency University's Bengali department inaugurated the course on Wednesday.

    Biswas said, "I'll retire in August when the course will formally end. I decided to enrol for the course because the subject seems interesting." Banik, who retired as a deputy general manager from IFB in 2023 and grew up reading Jibanananda's poems, enrolled in the course to learn more. "After retirement, I wanted to utilise my time exploring different things, including literature. So, I grabbed this opportunity. "

    Dasgupta, who became an engineer in 1993 from Durgapur, said, "Presidency was like a dream in our college days. After entering the campus, the dream came true for me." The university received 108 applications, and 61 have enrolled in the course.
