  • 123 Kolkata: The Bengal police STF arrested a suspected terrorist in Nadia district on Thursday. The accused, identified as Biplab Biswas alias Abdullah, was apprehended in Thanarpara.

According to senior STF officials, Biswas came under the radar after investigators uncovered his alleged links with the banned Bangladeshi militant organisation Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). The arrest came after three rounds of questioning at the STF headquarters in Kolkata.

"The accused failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding suspicious financial transactions and communication patterns with known militant elements," said a senior STF officer. Preliminary investigation revealed that Biswas maintained regular contact with two militants arrested earlier in Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas. The Behrampore court granted three days of police custody.

Intelligence sources suggest possible links between the arrested suspect and a militant currently imprisoned in Mumbai.

"We have substantial evidence in the form of call records and voice messages that suggest a broader network," another investigating officer said. The additional chief judicial magistrate authorised the collection of voice samples from three detainees, scheduled for early next week.
