Kolkata: Power outages were witnessed at many Madhyamik examination centres of south Bengal, including South 24-Parganas, North 24-Parganas and Kolkata amid rain and thunderstorms on Thursday.
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education allotted extra time to the examinees.
The sky had remained overcast in most of the districts since morning. It started raining heavily when the exam commenced at 11am. Students appeared for the Physical Science examination on Thursday. According to the Board officials the power outages lasted only for a few minutes. But at some centres the disruption was for half an hour, they added.. Power department staff swiftly addressed the outages.
Following chief minister Mamata Banerjee's instructions, power minister Aroop Biswas maintained continuous communication with officials throughout the day to monitor the situation across the state.
