Suri: A tribal woman and her two children were found with their throats slit in Managerpara locality of Birbhum's Mohammadbazar police station on Friday.
Lakshmi Maddi (25) lived with her two children, Rupali (10) and Abhijit (8), while her husband, Laltu, worked as a labourer in Durgapur.
Locals said Lakshmi and Rupali were found lying on the bed, wrapped in a blanket, while Abhijit's body was under the bed. All three were in pools of blood. Two persons were detained for questioning.
Police were informed by villagers of the deaths. When cops went to recover the bodies, they were faced with protests by local residents, who demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. Later, senior police officers, including Birbhum SP Amandeep, went to the spot and convinced villagers to let them take the bodies for postmortem. According to police sources, there were also deep injury marks on the heads of the three victims.
Amandeep said: "Prima facie, it is a case of murder. The postmortem reports will confirm how they were killed. Investigation has started and some important clues have been found."
