  • Kolkata: Omacme, a brand of Acme Moulders and Furniture Pvt Ltd, is set to invest Rs 100 crore in Bengal over the next five years. The company is coming up with two new manufacturing units and experience centres for expansion of its business in both wholesale and retail segments.

Currently, the Kolkata-based company that had introduced hot-pressed moulded plywood technology in 1985 runs a manufacturing plant at Sodepur, making 1,000 chairs and tables daily. Omacme will look at about 80% of its Rs 100 crore investment to bolster its manufacturing capacity while the rest will be shelled out in retail segment.

The company plans to set up its second manufacturing plant at Sodepur at an investment of Rs 30 crore by 2026. "Once the second unit becomes operational, our production capacity will be enhanced to manufacturing of around 2,500 chairs and tables per day," said Ajay Daga, MD and CEO of the company.

Daga said they would invest the remaining Rs 70 crore by 2030 to set up the third manufacturing plant, somewhere near Kalyani Expressway, and 10 experience centres across the country. It now has one experience centre in the city.

"From last year, the café and restaurant market is growing in the city and since we manufacture bespoke furniture, we are witnessing a rise in sale of chairs and tables. About 30% of our furniture sales comes from Bengal," Daga said.
