  • 12 Kolkata: The inspection and repair work at the Eden Hindu Hostel started on Friday after a concrete chunk fell from the ceiling.

The chunk crashed on the bed of a first-year PG boarder, Oishnic Dutta. He had a lucky escape as he was not on his bed during the incident. Following the crash, a team of PWD engineers, along with members of the Presidency University, visited the hostel and inspected all the rooms. The repair work also started immediately after a thorough examination.

The hostel boarders stated that they demanded regular repair work to avoid such incidents. During the survey, it was noticed that several places across the rooms and corridors needed immediate repairs.

One boarder said, "These are the demands we placed with the university authority several times, but they were reluctant to act. Concrete chunks fell from the ceiling last year as well."

Boarders entered wards 1 and 2 in 2022 after renovation work was conducted by the university, which started in 2015. Ward 3 is still closed.
