  • 12 Kolkata: Two of the three members of the Tangra family are likely to be discharged from the hospital on Saturday. Wile Pranay Dey and his son Pratip are fit to be discharged, Prasun will continue to be under hospital care. The decision was made after the treating doctors evaluated their health status on Friday evening.

The Dey brothers, along with Pratip (14), have been in the ICU of Ruby Hospital after their car crashed in the early hours of Wednesday. Even though none of them received life-threatening injuries, the trio was admitted to the ICU as they needed intense observation due to trauma injuries.

Sources at Ruby Hospital said the treating doctors evaluated their conditions and have opined that the younger of the two brothers, Prasun, will need further treatment and observation. The hospital authority has already informed the police about the development and discharge plan.

Prasun has multiple bilateral rib fractures with ulna dislocation. The ulna is a long bone in the forearm that runs from the elbow to the wrist. The elder brother sustained a fracture of the socket of the hip joint along with an injury to the right limb. The boy had a fracture in the ulna and the left proximal humerus, which is the upper part of the upper arm bone that connects to the shoulder, with multiple cuts and lacerated wounds. All of them underwent procedures to fix the fractures and are on conservative treatment.

Though kept in the same ICU along with other patients, the hospital has kept them at a strategic distance from each other for security reasons, with one security guard near each of them, apart from the police security at the ICU gate. Sources said keeping them close to each other could be risky as they allegedly attempted suicide. The medical team has been instructed to ask them questions pertinent to medical treatment only.
