Police recovered the bodies of a mother and her two children from their house at Mohammad Bazar of Birbhum district on Friday.

Mallarpur police station filed an FIR of murder against unknown persons and started an investigation. The bodies, which were found with slit throats, were sent to postmortem for further investigation.

The deceased are identified as Lakshmi Mardi (25), Rupali Mardi (10), and Abhijit Mardi (5). Police said Lakshmi’s husband Lalu Mandi lives in Durgapur for work.

This comes two days after the bodies of three persons — two adult women and a minor girl from the same family — were recovered from separate rooms in their house in Kolkata’s Tangra area on Wednesday, after a bizarre sequence of events beginning with a car crash.

BJP district president Dhruba Saha rushed to the spot after hearing of the Friday incident and said, “During (Chief Minister) Mamata Banerjee’s regime, nobody is safe, especially women and children.”
