1234 Kolkata: Even as Ruby General Hospital was ready to discharge Pranay Dey and his son Pratip on Saturday, the release formalities were briefly halted to prepare and secure the bill, which remained unpaid. The amount ran up to Rs 3.3 lakh till Saturday, but the hospital said no one was forthcoming to pay the amount. Later in the evening, the hospital said only Pranay Dey was released since a bed could not be organized for 14-year-old Pratip in a govt hospital where the two were to be shifted.
"As discussed with family friends and family members on Friday evening, while informing them about the discharges, we came to know that none of them is interested in taking responsibility for the payment. We urged Anandapur and Tangra police stations on Friday to arrange a quick discharge. As a special case, we gave discharge clearance to Pranay without financial clearances," said Subhasish Dutta, general manager – operations of Ruby. He added that the hospital waited for the police to reach the hospital for the discharge formalities. tnn
