Kolkata: In yet another robbery in Dum Dum, a gang of burglars raided at least three houses in the Dum Dum Cantonment area early on Saturday.
Around 2.30 am Saturday, the burglars sprayed some chemicals from the window of a single-storey house at Vivekananda Pally. As the targets fell unconscious, the gang cut open the grille with gas-cutters, entered the house and looted cash and jewellery. "The theft was detected on Saturday morning after we woke up late in the morning," said Ruma Dey, the house owner.
The owner of another neighbouring house, a trader, said that they did not have any knowledge about robbery in their house as they were in their slumber. "I saw that my house was ransacked. The door of the almirah was ajar. The gang looted valuables from our house, too," he said. The third house was raided by the same gang who broke in through a collapsible gate and looted valuables from a ground floor room of the two-storey building. Police suspect that the burglars were five-six in number. The robberies were pre-planned as they knew the place well. We are probing if any insider was involved," said an officer.
Four days ago, a masked gang robbed an elderly couple at knifepoint in the same neighbourhood. Two persons — Moni Mollah and Bibek Roy — have been arrested in the case.
