Married minor found dead, Pocso cuffs on S Kol man

Kolkata: A 22-year-old man from Ballygunge was arrested by Kasba police for allegedly marrying a 15-year-old minor girl, raping her, and then abetting her suicide. The accused, Bijoy Mondal, a resident of Naresh Mitra Sarani, was arrested on Friday after the minor was found hanging at her parental home on Thursday night in the Kasba police station area.
The victim's family filed a written complaint alleging sexual abuse and abetment to suicide. The police registered cases under relevant sections of the BNS, Pocso Act and Child Marriage Act.
According to cops, the victim met Mondal through social media about a year ago. Three months ago, she left her home and married Mondal against her family's wishes.
"The girl had no contact with her family after marriage until a few days ago when she returned home in a distressed state," said an officer. The victim reportedly disclosed to her family that she endured continuous physical and sexual abuse at her husband's residence.
