123 Kolkata: Prasun Dey, the younger of the Dey brothers, is likely to be discharged on Monday, and like his elder brother Pranay, he will be taken to NRS Medical College Hospital. Both brothers will be taken in custody and questioned once investigators get a go-ahead from medical experts.
Police said they wanted to take the Dey brothers to their Tangra home to reconstruct the events on Feb 17 and 18 and plug the missing links. The Dey brothers will also be questioned if they had force-fed the poison to Priyamvada because the teenager had bruises on her face.
Ruby General Hospital said that they would discharge Prasun on Monday. On Sunday, Dey underwent a high-resolution CT scan of the thorax as advised by the hospital's thoracic Surgeon, Sankhadip Pramanik. This was done under tight security. Treating doctors have opined that Prasun can be discharged as his pneumothorax issues have been resolved. "As confirmed by our treating doctors, we will be discharging Prasun Dey on Monday. Even as no one has come forward to clear the treatment bill of the three family members, we have carried out our responsibility of giving them the best medical care from our end," said a hospital source.
The NRS Hospital has been asked to keep a bed ready for Prasun.
For investigators, the early recovery of the two brothers holds the key to probe. "We need to question the two brothers at length on critical issues — whether they themselves consumed the payesh laced with strong sedatives on Feb 17 evening, and whether they asked all household workers not to report to work on Feb 18. We also want to know why the mediclaim insurance documents were kept ready at their home," an officer said.
The probe revealed that Prasun suffered from insomnia for a long time and took sleeping pills regularly. Unable to cope with massive business losses and debt pressure, the two told police that they planned to die by suicide a week ago, from Feb 10. They decided to give sleeping pills to the entire family and die together. As a preparation, they reportedly ordered 10 sheets of sleeping pills online. It arrived at their home on Monday. While dessert was being prepared on the second floor, the two brothers were crushing pills on the third. "We are not ruling out the fact that Priyamvada (the daughter), who studied on that floor, saw them during this time. When she asked questions, she was forcibly fed the dessert mixed with the pills. The post-mortem also found injuries on her face and chest," an officer said.
Cops are also not convinced by the manner in which the brothers waited an entire day — Feb 18 — at their home (even switching off all lights) before setting out post-midnight in their car.
