123 Kolkata: Cops have started a search for a home for Pratip Dey (14), the youngest in the Dey family, who may be released from hospital on Monday, along with his uncle. Police said they were in talks with one of his close relatives who live outside Kolkata to see if they can take his temporary custody.
Even as some relatives from the boy's maternal side signed discharge papers for his father, Pranay, on Saturday, they left after completing the formality. After the accident, they were treated at Ruby General Hospital. The hospital is now relying on the police to determine who will host the boy after his discharge. Police said they were still trying to get a maternal uncle of the minor boy to take custody of him.
Doctors said it would be best for Pratip to recuperate at home if he had some relatives to look after him. Even though he is only under conservative treatment, he is being kept in the ICU, mostly for security reasons. The hospital decided to discharge him on Saturday along with his father. But that did not happen as the boy has no family to return to, and no relative came forward to take him with them.
Doctors said the heaviest burden of the crime will be on the 14-year-old boy, who was knowingly or unknowingly part of it.
