  • Nupurchhanda Ghosh KOLKATA: In a remarkable celebration of Bengali musical heritage, Nupurchhanda Ghosh, a distinguished writer-singer and music researcher, has brought back to life some of the forgotten patriotic anthems of the Indian independence struggle. Through her performance titled "Amrita Bani," held recently at Vivekananda Hall, Ramakrishna Mission, Golpark, Kolkata, Ghosh revived the iconic works of legendary composers Dwijendralal Roy, Rajanikanto Sen, Atulprasad Sen, and Dilip Kumar Roy.

These four figures are revered for their significant contributions to the patriotic song movement, composing powerful and deeply resonant songs that captured the essence of nationalism, social justice, and the spirit of India’s freedom struggle. Their music, which once reverberated across the streets of Bengal, played an instrumental role in uniting the masses with its themes of courage, unity, and the pursuit of justice. Each composer brought a unique style, enriching Bengali music with distinct musical elements and lyrical expressions that remain influential to this day.

Speaking about the impact of the songs, noted artist Tinku Das, who designed the show, said, "These songs were once immensely popular and were recited by everyone. They were part of the cultural fabric of our lives." The "Amrita Bani" event saw a return to those glorious days, with the audience reconnecting with the deeply emotional and patriotic essence of these songs.

Ghosh, who has dedicated her career to the music of Dwijendralal Roy, Rajanikanto Sen, Atulprasad Sen, and Dilip Kumar Roy, has been a prominent figure in the field for over three decades. She holds a diploma in Rabindra Sangeet from the prestigious Dakshini Academy in Kolkata and has refined her skills under the guidance of renowned teachers such as Pandit A. Kanan and Smt. Krishna Chatterjee. Her expertise in these iconic composers' songs has earned her the Sangeet Samman from the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Ghosh is also a frequent performer on Bengali television and has performed in various cities across India and abroad.

Her commitment to preserving Bengali musical traditions is further demonstrated in her recent publication, "BANGLA KAVYAGEETI SWAROLIPI," which features the notations of 125 songs by Dwijendralal Roy, Rajanikanto Sen, and Atulprasad Sen. The book was launched at the Kolkata Book Fair 2025 by Ananda Publishers, marking another milestone in Ghosh’s lifelong mission to keep these iconic songs alive for future generations.
