123456 Kolkata: Prasun Dey, the younger of the Dey brothers who is suspected to have executed the murder of his wife, daughter and sister-in-law, was shifted from a private hospital to a govt facility on Monday morning. The elder brother, Pranay, had already been shifted to the same hospital — NRS — on Saturday. Both are in the male orthopaedic ward.
Pranay's son Pratip was also shifted to the govt hospital on Monday and admitted to the paediatric ward. Though police wanted the teenager to move in with his maternal relatives, since none has stepped forward to shoulder responsibility, cops are considering sending him to a children's home after he is fit.
All three were injured when the car they were travelling in rammed a metro pillar on EM Bypass. The brothers have claimed that the had done so on purpose in a bid to die by suicide after the deaths of their wives and Pranay's daughter.
According to Pratip, he woke up from sleep on the morning of Feb 18 to find his mother, aunt and cousin sister "asleep". His father and uncle were, however, awake. "After his cousin sister did not respond to his calls, he thought she too was fast asleep. He too was feeling drowsy and went back to sleep, only to wake up fearing a searing pain and found a cut on his wrist. He was then taken to a third floor room where he was confined and bled through the day," claimed a police source.
"We are certain that the murders took place on Feb 18 morning. The brothers stayed with the bodies in the Tangra home the entire day and kept the lights off and windows shut," said an officer.
The police have stated that the two brothers asked their wives to prepare ‘payesh' for three consecutive days beginning Feb 15 to ensure that the two children did not find it strange. "On each day, it was prepared with neem and tulsi. The medicines were mixed on Feb 17," said a senior officer at Lalbazar, adding that the two refrigerators inside the house were filled with cooked food, including a large quantity of ‘payesh' when cops opened them last Wednesday.
The police have also learnt that the ‘payesh' was purposely eaten long after dinner on each of the three nights to ensure it left a lasting effect. "We will visit the store to find out who provided the sleeping pills and medicines related to hypertension which were then mixed in the ‘payesh'," said a senior officer.
Sources said when cops showed Pranay the statement of his own son, he reportedly claimed that he himself did not have the courage to cut his own hand or that of his son. Cops did not reveal what Pranay said about the cut marks inflicted on Sudesna and Romi.
