• 3 Kumbh pilgrims die in crashes

  • Siliguri: A person died and 12 others were injured when the pick-up van they were travelling in collided with a truck at Naxalbari on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Niranjan Sarkar (35), a resident of Assam's Mayang. All the passengers of the van were going from Assam to Prayagraj to attend Maha Kumbh. The accident took place near Satbhaiya More along Asian Highway-II around 6 am.

    Sheikh Sahabuddin, the medical officer at Naxalbari Rural Hospital, said: "Three of the injured are critical, and some have sustained head injuries." Cops are looking for the truck driver.

    On Sunday night, two Bankura residents headed to Kumbh were killed in a road accident in Bihar's Sasaram. The incident took place when a truck hit the van in which the pilgrims were travelling. Haripada Sardar and Bangshi Mondal, both residents of Bankadaha in Bishnupur, died on the spot, while 12 were injured.
