• Farmers to get Rs321cr for crop damage

  • 12 Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced a Rs321 crore compensation package for farmers who have lost potatoes and rice due to unseasonal rain and damages suffered due to water release from DVC dams. Most of the affected farmers were from Bankura and East Burdwan districts. The CM announced that the state would buy potatoes from the farmers and sell them through Sufal Bangla stalls. The CM said that the cabinet decided to provide a minimal support price of Rs900 per quintal so there is no distress sale.
