With an aim to revive the party from its present position in West Bengal, the CPI(M) state leadership organised a special session for its members on Monday. State secretary Md Selim termed the special session as a first-of-its-kind in the state conference.

“In this session, a PowerPoint presentation showed where our party stands now. Earlier, a survey was organised across the state by the party, and the result of that was also shown in the presentation: What voters are thinking about the political situation of the state,” a delegate said.

Party sources said the CPI(M) has decided to constitute separate state-level and district-level committees for this revival mission. At the state level, a central research team will be constituted. This will monitor and research the campaign material, and campaign on social media. On the other hand, two committees will be constituted at the district level — A district task force and a district war room, a party insider said, said party insiders.

The district task force will be engaged in managing data which will be used for campaign and election preparation. On the other hand, the district war room will be engaged in mining data, campaign and election managements. It will also ensure micro-level Assembly constituency management and according to their report, the party will identify which assembly constituency they should give more importance.

A delegate of the state conference said, “We are lacking development at the booth level, which was strong 30-40 years ago. From now on, we will develop the cadre base through a special cadre development programme. The cadre will be taught how to choose which issue is to be given more importance. We shall also work on which local-level campaign should be done in a particular area, how a person should be targeted to be inducted into our organisation and more. All such things will be taught in the cadre development programme.”

A member of the CPI(M) state secretariat said, “We don’t have a readymade report of the census as since 2011, the census has not been conducted. So, we made a survey on our own in every village of West Bengal. Accordingly, we now have a detailed data on the population, with the number of people from the SC/ST and OBC communities as well as other minorities in each village and panchayat areas. Accordingly, we will do our planning.”

Md Selim said that the party will carry out the work in six projects, each of which will be named after former CPI(M) leaders.
