The West Bengal BJP after a two-day marathon meeting over the weekend, is set to announce their district presidents in a day or two, said party insiders on Tuesday.
Sources said that by the end of this month or the first week of March, the state president would also be announced. The party has already started preparations for the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly election and has appointed over 1,000 Mandal presidents.
According to a senior BJP leader, over 39 district presidents will be announced this week. Sources said that the names have been selected, and the party is just waiting for the green signal from the central leadership.
The state BJP unit is in need of a new president as Sukanta Majumdar, who currently holds the post, was made a Union Minister in June last year after he was elected from Balurghat constituency in the Lok Sabha election.
Party insiders said the new state president will set the tone for the party’s strategy in the 2026 Assembly election and boost the morale of grassroot workers. The BJP losing in the recent bypolls has had a negative effect on the party workers.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will convene a mega meet of the Trinamool Congress on February 27, where she is expected to outline the party’s roadmap for the 2026 Assembly elections and announce significant organisational changes.
