Kolkata remembers Father Détienne, Belgian Jesuit priest and Bengali literary figure

123 Kolkata: The birth centenary of Belgian Jesuit priest and Bengali literature scholar, Father Détienne, was commemorated on Thursday at Visva-Bharati University's Bengali Department.
The celebration, organised by St Xavier's College Alumni Association, drew notable academics and institutional leaders, including Visva-Bharati vice-chancellor Binay Kumar Soren and St Xavier's College principal Father Dominic Savio.
Father Détienne, recipient of the prestigious Rabindra Puraskar and Narsinngha Das Puraskar, gained recognition for his series ‘dairy-r chhera pata' in Bengali literature. Former Rabindra Bharati University VC Pabitra Sarkar highlighted the scholar's significant literary contributions during the event.
Chinmoy Guha and Krishna Sharbori Dasgupta received the Father Détienne Centenary Commemorative Award at the event.
As part of the celebration, a special prayer meeting was organised at Parashmoni by St Xavier's College and its alumni.
