Kolkata: Professor Dirk Scherler of GFZ German Research Centre, Berlin, chaired the 5th National Science Day, which is being hosted by IISER-Kolkata, as a special guest on Friday. He delivered an illuminating lecture titled ‘Four Good Reasons to Study Earth Sciences' that offered insights into the mysteries of our planet and the significance of geoscientific exploration. Around 1,000 students, educators, and science enthusiasts participated in the event.
The National Science Day commemorates the discovery of the Raman Effect by Nobel Laureate Sir C V Raman in 1928. This year's event included talks by eminent scientists and scholars, interactive scientific exhibitions showcasing ongoing research and innovations, and the launch of a documentary on IISER-Kolkata.
On this day, IISER-Kolkata conducts programmes aimed at fostering scientific curiosity, innovation, and outreach among students. It serves as a platform to ignite young minds, encouraging them to explore the vast world of science through interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and thought-provoking discussions. By connecting students with leading researchers, the event inspires future scientists, enhances scientific literacy, and promotes a deeper appreciation for research and discovery.
